“Investing in women’s empowerment can unlock human potential on a transformational scale.”
Research shows that including women in all levels of decision-making spurs economic and social development and improves quality of life for everyone. Even secular NGOs recognize that effective development is linked to women’s equality and religious beliefs. Yet the connection between Christian faith and women’s equality has been largely unexplored by Christian humanitarian agencies, which represents a serious impediment to thriving communities.
Many churches exclude women from leadership based on a few mistranslated and misinterpreted Bible verses. This fuels abuse and discrimination in God’s name. Leaders protect patriarchy’s status quo and influence Christian NGOs to support male authority, which limits their humanitarian work and the impact of the gospel in the world.
CBE acts where humanitarian work, Christian belief, and women’s equality intersect. As part of those efforts, we will partner with the Women's Commission of the World Evangelical Alliance and the Anglican Diocese of Norwich to host an international conference in London September 23–26, 2020. The event is designed to explore the biblical case for women’s equality in churches and Christian humanitarian organizations. Local and international leaders from around the world will be invited to join CBE in London for this groundbreaking event.
We hope to raise $20,000 to support planning and scholarships for local UK faith leaders. Join in the work of integrating all three vital components of this triad of human flourishing by making a generous donation today.
