August 2021

Meet Our New Editor

CBE is excited to announce our new editor of Mutuality, Sarabeth Marcello. Let's let her introduce herself!

"Hello! My name is Sarabeth Marcello, and I’m the new Mutuality editor for CBE! I hold a BA in English and Bible from the University of Northwestern—St. Paul. Before coming to CBE, I worked for three years at the Minnesota South District of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. I discovered CBE through the Mutuality Matters podcast, and I desire to see all women and men empowered to embrace the call God places on their lives, whatever that may be. A Minnesotan through and through, I currently reside in St. Paul with an array of houseplants that I try (and often fail) to keep alive."

We are excited to have Sarabeth Marcello on the CBE team. She already has two opportunities for you to get involved this month and write for Mutuality! Read on to check them out, and don't miss our other August announcements, including major conference discounts, a free seminar, meeting our scholarship winners, and reading or listening to new blog posts and podcasts!

CBE is thrilled to announce the 2021 recipients of the Alvera Mickelsen Memorial Scholarship (AMMS)! Each of these remarkable women uniquely illustrates the importance of empowering women in ministry. CBE is proud to support them as they work toward graduate degrees in divinity, theology, and missions. Emily, Laura, and Michelle are no strangers to the barriers faced by women in ministry, but they remain committed to answering God’s call. It’s our honor to empower and encourage these women and women like them to use their God-given talents as they pursue their callings. Visit the AMMS home page to read the winner’s bios to learn more about them!

You can Empower Women to Lead in Ministry

AMMS has become one of CBE’s most popular programs and we need your help to keep it strong for many years to come by building up the fund with another $30,000.

The scholarships enable women to work as leaders beside men in churches and ministries, which benefits everyone!

The AMMS award affirms the work Emily does among the marginalized and her calling as a woman leader in the church. She is especially grateful for the life of Alvera Mickelsen and hopes to honor her legacy by advocating for women in leadership with both truth and grace.

CBE's Summer Intern

CBE takes talent, skills, and training seriously, and our internships provide opportunities to learn and grow!

Meet our summer intern, Bethany Ritter. She is a double major of religion and sociology at Berry College in Rome, Georgia. Bethany is on the leadership team for Common Worship, a ministry on her campus. When she is not in classes, reading textbooks, or writing papers, she loves to drink coffee with friends, bake, and read for fun.

Bethany has been a huge help to CBE's media team, adding content to several online platforms. She also has assisted CBE with work for the Evangelical Theological Society annual meeting in November.

Are you looking for a paid internship to gain new skills while helping a cause you’re passionate about? We’re looking for work-from-home interns to help advance CBE’s ministry in areas like theology, writing and editing, marketing, media and journalism, and many more! Check out our website, spread the word, or apply today.

Calling All Writers—Two Opportunities to Write for Women’s Equality!

Submissions for the winter issue of Mutuality magazine

In this issue of Mutuality, we want to examine the current state of the egalitarian movement in the worldwide church. We will pay heed to recent wins for gender equality in the last five, ten, even twenty years. Yet we also want to look with hope toward future work still needing to be done. Where should we as egalitarians be focusing our efforts?

To learn more about this topic and find ideas for possible angles, visit our website.

If you already have an idea and are interested in writing a piece for us, read our writer’s guidelines.

Email mutuality@cbeinternational.org with your submissions.

Mutuality magazine articles are due September 6!

CBE’s annual writing contest is turning FIVE!

Do you want to help dismantle theological patriarchy in the home, church, and world? Then CBE invites you to write for our fifth annual writing contest! We’re passionate about giving women and men of all cultures, races, and classes a platform to share their stories and insights about biblical gender equality, egalitarian theology, and Christian feminism. Writing contest entries are due September 17. Check our blog for more info!

CBE Chapters

Chapters are a local expression of the movement led by CBE, collaborating to advance biblical equality in homes, churches, and communities.

Using their individual creativity and unique gifts, CBE chapters host a variety of events such as educational forums, leadership summits, community meals, fundraisers like golf tournaments and Zumbathons, film screenings, and coffee talks. Local chapters also function as incubators where members grow in advocacy and communication skills, which they can then contribute to CBE’s magazine, academic journal, annual conferences, and blog. Join or start a CBE chapter today.
